Charles Bukowski | My cats

I know. I know.
they are limited, have different
needs and
concerns.

but I watch and learn from them.
I like the little they know,
which is so
much.

they complain but never
worry,
they walk with a surprising dignity.
they sleep with a direct simplicity that
humans just can’t
understand.

their eyes are more
beautiful than our eyes.
and they can sleep 20 hours
a day
without
hesitation or
remorse.

when I am feeling
low
all I have to do is
watch my cats
and my
courage
returns.

I study these
creatures.

they are my
teachers.

To a cat | Jorge Luis Borges

Mirrors are not more silent
nor the creeping dawn more secretive;
in the moonlight, you are that panther
we catch sight of from afar.
By the inexplicable workings of a divine law,
we look for you in vain;
More remote, even, than the Ganges or the setting sun,
yours is the solitude, yours the secret.
Your haunch allows the lingering
caress of my hand. You have accepted,
since that long forgotten past,
the love of the distrustful hand.
You belong to another time. You are lord
of a place bounded like a dream.

Van Cats of Turkey

Turkish Van cats (Van Kedisi in Turkish) love to swim and eat chocolate (allegedly), are extremely affectionate and usually have one blue and one amber eye. The city of Lake Van has statues in their honor and their image is used in ads for  local businesses. Lake Van is mecca for cat freaks. The Van Yüzüncü Yil Universitesi (Van Hundredth Year University) has a breeding and research center for the cats called the Van Cat House. Outsiders aren’t allowed to buy these radical babe cats.
